The CODE OF CONDUCT acts as a foundation for all stakeholders, children and young people to follow involved on 'U Can Shine' programmes. Creating a unique relationship between all parties is established on the values, principles and ethics that U Can Shine represents. If anyone at anytime is judged to breach the following code it will be decided by the means set out below to decide the appropriate course of action and if, when a situation does occur how and what appropriate action will be taken, by whom and when.
Each child engages and undertakes the understanding, the responsibilities and commitment to each other throughout the programme. Each will act with respect, an appreciation of each other's values, faith, beliefs and demonstrate honesty towards achieving a successful relationship, individually and with the group.
- The U Can Shine Coach/ Representative is to act professionally at all times. All personal and confidential information shared with the coach must remain so. However, in the event where a situation or issue occurs where coaching is not deemed suitable then appropriate action must be taken to inform the Head of such an incident as soon it is clear to do so. It will then be the Head teacher's discretion / responsibility to follow the measures and procedures that the school already operates to deal with such an issue or circumstance.
- If a child on the programme is abusive, violent, disruptive or general nuisance towards the coach and or others in the group, the individual will be excluded from the programme immediately. The school Head will be informed immediately of such decision and a letter confirming this will be given to the Head of the School and copy sent to the child's parents informing them of their son/daughters exclusion.
- The U Can Shine Coach will operate a sanction board for less serious disturbances that leads to a similar course of action as (No 2) where, if it is deemed a particular person becomes a nuisance on the programme by continually disrupting the group or Coach, this could also lead to exclusion from the programme.
- Each child is to support, encourage, motivate and challenge others towards their desired goals.
- Each child will commit themselves 100% to the programme, teacher, coach and others in the group and the aims set out in the U Can Shine programme
- It is important that all stakeholders communicate and listen to each other. Communication works two ways. It will become crucial towards the progress and long - term success of the Programme in Schools.
- U Can Shine (Coach) will undertake at all times to ensure the Health and Safety of all children in the group. This includes the environment and any equipment that the child may use from time to time. A full risk assessment in line with School procedures and policies will be carried out to ensure every child's Safety prior to the programme commencing.
- The coach and child will follow the goals of the U Can Shine programme (during each session the child will set their own particular goal not the coach). This will enable the child to create greater ownership and responsibility from the child.
- At all times great emphasis will be placed on a positive work ethic in the group and each child will be encouraged to express themselves and have fun. As well as the physical benefits to the programme it is vital that a positive attitude is achieved for the Coaching session. A correct attitude is crucial towards the setting of personal goals and achieving them.
- All members of the U Can Shine team; coaches and others assigned to the programme (i.e. documentation purposes) will conduct themselves professionally at all times. They will act as role models in the way they represent U Can Shine, clearly demonstrate the values and principles of the programme and perform all coaching sessions in a clear and precise manner.
- Each child understands that they are acting as a role model for their school and towards their peers. They understand the opportunity presented to them by the School and U Can Shine and will act responsibly at all sessions.
